One of the main advantages of a For Sale By Owner house sale is the amount of money that it can save by cutting out the agent.  This entails placing your own ads, yard signs, etc, and in so doing effectively cutting out the commission that would ordinarily go to the agent.

However, despite this benefit, is the choice to go FSBO always the right one?  There are certainly disadvantages to consider. The market can be competitive and successfully making a sale may be a large investment in both time and effort.  The crucial question to ask is whether this time is actually worth the commission on the selling price of your home that the agent would usually receive?  There are other things to consider such as whether you are able to make the property properly presentable to potential buyers and whether you are able get an attorney to review the contracts for the sale.  Even if these conditions are all met, you will also need to consider what timescale you have before needing to make the sale.
